Please enjoy this evolving historical resource. It is the product of countless hours of research I've undertaken--both as part of my former job as [[Heritage Research Consultant Report|Heritage Research Consultant]] for the City of Rocky Mount and as a personal obsession.
I invite you to read, peruse and connect information throughout this digital garden at your pleasure. This site will continue to grow with the research.
I believe the history of Black Rocky Mount, especially the lost fusion decade of the 1890s--when modern Rocky Mount was birthed--is a critical area of research because it (1) gives the lie to the dominant white-supremacist narratives of the city, and (2) can inform our present decisions for a better future.
Start with learning a bit about [[Dred Wimberly]], [[W. Lee Person]], the [[Rocky Mount Improvement and Manufacturing Company]], or [[The Fifth Ward and Rocky Mount’s first Black City Councilmembers]]
Forward,
