A newspaper item has gone the rounds of the press stating that the Hon. James G. Blaine was a bondsman of W. Lee Person, postmaster at Rocky Mount, N. C. This is a mistake. Mr. Blaine is not on the bond. Mr. Person’s bondsmen are Congressman Cheatham and Mr. James H. Young, a Special Agent and Inspector under the Customs branch of the Treasury Department.

Timely Topics at the National Capital.
Washington, July 29. -The most significant movement among the Afro-Americans here from the South, was the organization of the “Southern Colored Republican Association,” composed of leading men of the race from the different Southern States. The main object of this association is to urge the passage of the Lodge bill, and also to aid the Republican Congressional campaign in the South if this bill becomes a law. Nearly every Southern State is represented and the success of the movement is assured. The interview of ex-Congressman Menard published in the New York Tribune of the16th inst., voices the real sentiment of the colored Republicans of the South regarding the necessity of the passage of the Lodge bill. The organization is growing as it must under the guidance of such able Republicans as Menard of Florida, Europe of Alabama, Lewis of Virginia, Wimberly of North Carolina and Ferguson of Texas.
